East Point shopping centre to be revamped
In consultation with the Ekurhuleni Council, East Point is in the process of reconfiguring its public parking areas to allow for an enhanced shopper experience and simpler navigation and flow.
"The reconfiguration of the public parking space has already led to improved traffic flow within the centre and we have more clearly demarcated parking bays available," says Marietjie Pienaar, East Point centre manager. "With the assistance of the council, traffic count studies and the syncing of traffic lights, peak congestion in and around the shopping centre has eased tremendously."
The parking related changes at East Point include the new main western entrance and exit adjacent to Burger King on Rietfontein Road that will soon be fully operational; and new parking bays have been created on the eastern parking side (opposite Toys R Us) which will eliminate confusion.
Assisting traffic flow
Construction on the new Game entrance will commence shortly and when completed, will be an entrance only in order to assist with the general flow of traffic. The Eastern North Rand Road vehicle entrance (opposite the new East Point main entry point) is currently an entry and exit point, but will in the future become redundant and make way for additional parking bays.
The current Western North Rand Road entrance will become the main entry and exit point on North Rand Road. Once the new changes have been implemented, shoppers will have multiple easy access points to East Point's parking bays.
Besides the increased safety for shoppers, the new paid-for parking functionality alleviates vehicle 'flooding' (vehicles being parked at East Point while the owners shop elsewhere) over peak shopping periods.
"We are aware that parking is a concern for our shoppers, but the inconvenience is temporary and will, in the near future, operate smoothly. We're excited about the development taking place at East Point which will ultimately offer a superior shopping experience for our customers," concludes Pienaar.
