Toyota acquires ISO 50001 energy management certification
Toyota Motor Corporation has acquired the international energy management system certification ISO 50001, which requires the introduction of comprehensive company-wide measures to use energy more efficiently.

As a part of its efforts to achieve zero emissions across the entire company, even at plants and production technology R&D facilities, Toyota has supplemented its existing energy management measures by introducing and employing systems based on ISO 50001. Toyota will build a highly effective energy management system taking into consideration social trends and critical issues such as global warming for achieve maximum effect.
ISO 50001 is an international standard set forth by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) concerning energy management systems. It provides a framework for organizations to integrate energy management into overall efforts to improve quality and environmental management. Like the ISO 14001 energy management standard, the ISO 50001 standard was adopted with the aim of continuously improving energy performance through the creation and operation of energy management systems centred on the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle.
Dedicated department
In South Africa, Toyota is making great strides towards energy management systems. A dedicated environmental engineering department has been established to work towards the organisation's environmental goals. In recognition of the organisation's results, Toyota South Africa was awarded the Energy Company of the Year award by the Southern African Association of Energy Efficiency in 2014 for the second consecutive year.
In addition to this, Toyota South Africa also runs a yearly programme to maintain their ISO 14001 certification. This programme involves all areas of the business.

We continue to work towards being an energy efficient business including our entire supply chain. We stay motivated to ensure all our projects yield optimum results with no effects on quality, safety and production," says Calvyn Hamman, senior vice-president of Sales and Marketing at Toyota South Africa.
