Suspicious spending by Real Madrid
"Does the club making such enormous transfers have the money or not?," Platini asked in an interview in Thursday's French sports daily L'Equipe.
I've heard a lot of theories about why Madrid has all that money laying around, and to set the record straight I don't believe any of them! There must be something happening within the higher board member levels that are not right. Signing Ronaldo should have set them back a penny or two, but then signing Kaka and then again Karim Benzema, everyone including their own fans are asking questions.
"Personally, I can't understand that you can spend €90 million on a player," Platini added. "But I remember the transfer of (Diego) Maradona from Barcelona to Naples (in 1984). It must have been for the equivalent of €6.5 million and people already found it indecent.
This is where all the irony comes in. FIFA jumps on South Africa as well as Africa just because it's based of third world country hosting a major tournament. The moment a big club like Real Madrid spends ridiculous amounts of money nothing is done. They could be laundering money for all we know.
"I think there's something not normal in there. I don't like all that, and even less the fact that today, contracts are being signed only to be breached. But then again, if the clubs have the money, what can I do?" Platini said and yet nothing can be done by the “boss of FIFA”.
