Russia's Mumiy Troll to play two Cape Town gigs
Voted "Best Band of the Millennium" by Russian music fans, Mumiy Troll is without question the most significant musical entity that Russia has produced since Perestroika. The group`s popularity is so great that contemporary Russian music is broken down in terms of what came before and after Mumiy Troll.
Their sound is a blend of flamboyant glam and Stones-like swagger with original wit and a great deal of fun. The talent, charisma and work ethic of the band's front man, Ilya Lagutenko, have made him the quintessential Russian superstar.
The band will be sailing into Cape Town on the Barque Sedov, one of Russia's oldest sailing vessels, as part of its journey around the globe. The band will be performing on:
- Thursday, 25 April: Unplugged acoustic set with support band Long Time Citizen. Venue : On A Roll, 78 Durban Road, Mowbray. 7pm. Free entry.
- Friday, 26 April: Full plugged-in performance with support band Long Time Citizen. Venue : Ragazzi, 7 Loop Street, Cape Town. 9pm. Entrance : R40.
