For the past year-and-a-half popular Cape Town venue &Union has played home to Tuesdays On Fire, an event that showcases the best up-and-coming musical talent that SA has to offer. Acts that have graced past events include Tailor, Shortstraw, Jet Black Camaro and Matthew Mole.
The success of Tuesdays On Fire has prompted a nationwide expansion and 27 March will feature the launch of Jozi On Fire, a six-part event that will take place on the last Wednesday of each month at Openroom Studios in Greenside, Joburg.
On expanding up to Gauteng, Tecla Ciolfi, creator and curator of these events and editor of Your LMG magazine, commented: "It's an honour to have Grammy Award-winning producer Darryl Torr and his team at Openroom Studios host Jozi On Fire. We're a bunch of like-minded people, all incredibly passionate about investing in our local music industry."
el Jimador has also come on board with Jozi On Fire to ensure that the party will continue long after the music is done and, together with Odd Café, will be providing exciting activations for every event.
"Ray-Ban has always been a proud supporter of local music and following the success of our Tuesdays On Fire events in Cape Town, I am looking forward to bringing these events to Gauteng, along with Tecla and el Jimador," commented Thera van't Hof, Ray-Ban's brand manager South Africa.
Tuesdays On Fire and Jozi On Fire are also proud to be affiliated with Luxottica's OneSight, a family of vision care charities dedicated to providing healthy vision, eyewear and sun protection to those in need worldwide. Since 1988, these charitable efforts have provided free vision care and eyewear to more than 8 million people and have granted millions of dollars towards optical research and education.
