Sound on Screen line-up
God Bless Ozzy Osbourne
Brand new first-ever in-depth documentary on the life of the rock star who helped create heavy metal. Ozzy himself wonders how he's survived his crazy life. Including archive footage and new exclusive interviews with Ozzy, his family, musicians like his Black Sabbath band mates, Paul McCartney, Henry Rollins, Tommy Lee and more.
The Heart Is A Drum Machine
Study of what music means to human beings, including a range of well-known musicians, producers, composers, scholars, scientists, actors and many more (including Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, Funkadelic, Bob Ludwig, Eddie Kramer, Juliette Lewis, Strapping Young Lad, Dandy Warhols, Kurt Loder, Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, and Guns 'n Roses)
The Prodigy Live - World's On Fire
The Prodigy's live performance at the Warrior's Dance festival. The addition of live drums and guitars turns this event into an electronically charged rock show that will melt your face off.
A dozen-and-a-half set list covering their entire career, from Out Of Space and Firestarter, to Smack My Bitch Up and Run With The Wolves.
Blood Into Wine
The enigma known as Maynard James Keenan (vocalist of Tool and A Perfect Circle) ventured into the realm of wine-making. This very unique documentary covers that amazingly unexpected journey and takes a rare look at this elusive rock star from a very different angle.
The Creators
Moving look at different struggling musicians in the Cape Town area, from an aspiring opera singer and hip hop stalwart to a busker and poet. The Creators explores the chaotic reality of modern-day South Africa by peering through the eyes of its artists. Born into separate areas of the formerly segregated country, the subjects re-craft history in their own artistic languages. Some of the movie-makers and musicians will be present at the Friday, 9 December. 6.15pm screening.
Wendy O Williams & The Plasmatics
Deserving far more recognition as an alternative icon, the dynamo known as Wendy O Williams was at the forefront of a new-generation punk/metal hybrid, literally blowing up the stage, often turning into performance art. But there was more to it than blowing up cars or chainsawing guitars in half on stage.
James Blunt - 'Til You're Told To Stop
An intimate documentary following James Blunt across his early years before becoming an international phenomenon.
Black Metal - A Documentary
With backstage interviews and raw live footage, you get an insight into this controversial extreme metal genre from the bands themselves, including its various pioneers, from Venom, Immortal, and Mortiis, to Enslaved, Gorgoroth, Celtic Frost and King Diamond.
Real Punk Get Checked
Rare interviews (and performances) with punk legends like Johnny Rotten, Jello Biafra, The Ramones, Becky Bondage and many more.
Mama Goema
A journey to the heart of the Mother City and a beat called Goema. With indigenous roots, colonial influence and shaped by Cape Town's slave history, Goema's blueprint lies in the city's carnival culture. The documentary charts the evolution of this musical genre. Producers and some of the subjects of the movie will be present at the Sunday, 4 December, 4pm screening for an audience Q&A.
I Saw Giraffes In India
Israeli folk-rock band Girafot took the wild plunge and head to India. This documents their trip, looks at the band's music and the people creating it.
