Yesterday's Pupil chats Singularity

You are releasing your album in a similar way to Mr Sakitumi's EP, by releasing sequential free downloads. Was this a way to take the power back in today's age of illegal downloading and sharing?
I'm not sure if it is about taking the power back. I think it is more about being heard. I want people to hear my music and people don't drive to music shops to buy albums, they sit in front of their computers downloading TV shows, music and porn. Sad, but true.

How has the response been so far?

It has been great, people are already looking forward to, and asking for and about, Part 2 and that is a good thing. The reason I decided to do it in sequential parts is because I want people to follow it like a series of mini-albums.

What sound can we expect from the forthcoming singles?

It will be different from Part 1.

Once all 10 singles are released will you be compiling them into a physical album?

Yes, also with additional tracks that were never available for free. The physical album will include some bonus material.

Will you be doing an album tour once all singles have been released?

I will be doing shows more frequently again. It is hardly possible to tour SA unless you are Kurt Darren or The Parlotones.

The video and lyrics for Too Tired To Disco are really cute. What inspired this song?

Insomnia and being away from a girl for a really long time.

How was it working with Marko Benini from Isochronous on Goodbye?

Really cool. He is an intense dude, but really good at what he does. We work well together, I would definitely like to work with him again.

Yesterday's Pupil is a one-man band, but you also guest and work with many other bands on side projects. Do you prefer flying solo or working as a team?

Honestly, I enjoy both. I love working with people. YP is my personal outlet, though, and I think that is important to have as well.

You have mastered many musical instruments, do you have a favourite?

Drums

How did the nickname Peach come about?

My initials are PH, so in high school kids called me PH and that kind of just evolved into PeacH if you know what I mean. Kids ... I have never been able to shake it.

Can you share a most-rock-star moment?

I was sitting on the rocks at Clifton Beach and the ocean breeze gently caressed my face, almost teasing me, I thought that was pretty rock star.

You have had a very varied and exciting musical history so far: awards, collabs, tours. What have been some of your musical highlights so far?

Playing on and producing Van Coke Kartel's album "Skop, Skiet En Donner" and winning the SAMA for it. Also winning the SAMA for Bittereinder's album. Having a great show at Oppikoppi. Touring in The Netherlands and performing at Paradiso and Lowlands Festival, drinking cool drink with Skrillex. There are many and I am grateful for each and every one of them.

If Yesterday's Pupil was characterised by an animal, what would it be and why?

A cross-breed between a panda and a koala. It seems right.

What accomplishments do you still need to tick off on your to-do list?

Collaborating with one of my childhood heroes.
