One man, two ladders, three characters and a dog
The show isn't hold-your-sides-in-agony funny, it is a very, very clever funny. However, there are a few sad, action-filled, wise and heartfelt moments too, which simply glue it all together in the perfect combination to have you enthralled the entire time.
James effortlessly and seamlessly moves from one character to the next without faltering once. With props, he lets the audience know at what point the performance is so that they can all keep up. At 55 minutes it is the perfect amount of time to have you interested throughout; any longer and I think it would've been too dragged out.
Now he plays three characters, but also throws in a taxi driver (he speaks Xhosa for this bit), an Afrikaner barman and the best representation of a coloured policeman that I have ever seen. The worst part of all is that in your mind you can see each one of these characters, but there is only James on stage. I don't know how he does it, but he does it damned well!
This is definitely one to see, and perhaps even see again. Take your friends, your family and anybody else you can scoop up. You won't regret it.
