A PA system, musical equipment, recording time, an electronic press kit (EPK), as well as an one-on-one session with music guru David Chislett, who will assist the band in setting up a 12-month strategy for 2012, and publishing assistance with M2 Music (thereby ensuring the artist's assets - songs are both protected and nurtured), will be won by the winning band.
It is not about a band or musician simply winning, it is about assisting all bands/musicians performing in this event in order for them to grow their band/music for the future. The Emerging Sounds Challenge is about empowering bands and musicians to help them grow as a unit and further their goals.
Prizes on offer this year include a full Wharfdale PA system and a range of musical gear including Pearl Vision VBX 5-piece Drum Kit and Boss Single Effects Pedals. Plus studio time from Get Phat Studios with a sound engineer and a television quality EPK filmed by Orange Orbit Productions. Then the winning band has a strategy session with David Chislett who will assist them in planning the bands strategy for 2012 ensuring they know how to plot a course to achieve their musical destiny; in a nutshell helping them create a road map for 2012. Mallory Lambert, from publishing house M2 Music, will ensure the winning band has its house in order in protecting their songs and music, plus will assist them in making money from their songs.
Acoustic soloists and duos have the chance to win an acoustic Cort guitar courtesy of Music Mate as well as studio time from Get Phat Studios and an EPK filmed by Orange Orbit Productions. M2 Music will also assist the best acoustic solo/duo with their publishing requirements.
Bands and musicians participating in this year's Challenge will also receive discount when purchasing musical equipment at any one of Music Mate's stores, they will also receive discount when booking studio time with Get Phat Studios in Johannesburg. Plus they have the opportunity of getting paid for their performance as well.
All musicians performing will also be able to purchase Dave Chislett's book One Two One Two on the music industry at a discount at the gig. The book will be sold at a discounted price of R200. This book was written to assist bands in learning about the business of music and is written in a style that is entertaining, enlightening and informative.
The event has always judged bands on their performance on that specific day at that specific time. After all, you are only as good as your last performance and it is our belief that every time a band plays on stage that performance must be the best one they have ever performed.
