Picnic concert at Nederburg
Laid-back vibes, great tunes and good friends are on the menu for Nederburg's annual picnic concert on Saturday, 23 November, 2013. The winery, close to Paarl, is once again blending music, food and wine.
The Sterling EQ instrumental pop group and The South African Sopranos will be performing at this year's summer event. Sterling EQ, known for their extraordinary fusion of virtuosity and fresh beats, won the award for the best instrumental album at the 2013 Huisgenoot Tempo Awards. The instrumental pop group is also a previous SAMA winner and have shared the stage with music icons such as Boney M, Snow Patrol, Lira and Loyiso Bala.
The South African Sopranos have built a huge following for their renditions of extracts from operas, musicals and other international favourites. The group, whose vocals won them the 2013 Kanna Award for the best classical production at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival (KKNK), have previously performed for former South African President Nelson Mandela, as well as European royalty such as Queen Elizabeth II, King Gustav of Sweden and Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands. Entertainment for the kids will also be available.
A range of culinary delights
Nederburg's restaurant, The Red Table, will be offering a range of culinary delights. You can pre-order a picnic basket, brimming with freshly prepared dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, for R180 per person. Picnic baskets for children under 12 will also be available at R75 per head. Guests may, however, bring their own food items. Please note that no alcoholic beverages may be brought onto the premises. Nederburg wines, soft drinks, mineral waters, tea and coffee will be offered for sale. Guests are encouraged to bring their own cutlery, crockery, glassware, chairs, tables, blankets and cushions.
The concert starts at 5pm and gates will open at 3pm to allow everyone enough time to choose a picnic spot on the sprawling lawns surrounding Nederburg's historic manor house. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Concert tickets are R100, while for kids under 12 entrance is free.
The Nederburg Visitors' Centre will be open for wine tasting and sales from 10am to 5pm. Take advantage of its November special offer, which includes a free bottle of Nederburg Premiére Cuvèe Brut when purchasing 11 bottles. Tastings do not have to be pre-arranged. A cellar and museum tour will also be on offer at 11am. A reservation is advised.
Booking is essential for both the music concert and the picnic options offered by The Red Table. For all bookings call Sunette on +27 (0)21 877 5173 or send an email to az.oc.lletsid@seniwden well in advance.
