Fisherman finds millions in his net

A fishing boat was trawling off the coast of Japan when it hauled up a bag containing 11-million yen (R1,1-million) in cash, according to a report published by IOL. It says the bag was probably lost when a tsunami hit Japan's north-eastern coast earlier this year.

It quotes Ofunato city official Kou Ueno as saying that a great many bags containing cash as well as safes stuffed with notes have been found by fishermen since the 9,0-magnitude earthquake devastated the coastal region earlier this year.

If nobody comes forward during the next six months to claim the 11-million yen then it will be given to the fisherman who found it. The nation has been praised for its honesty as all the cash that has been hauled from the sea has been handed over to authorities.

As there is no way to identify the owner, the information about the bag and its contents is being kept secret to allow the city to determine whether the person claiming the money is its rightful owner.
