Voestalpine reduces annual energy bill with LED lights
Energy-saving solution provider Rawlyn LED Lights has assisted railway products manufacturer Voestalpine VAE SA to reduce its annual energy bill.
According to ESI-Africa, newer greener technology installation at Voestalpine's Isando head office and plant has helped it reduce, over the past few months, 18% to 25% of its monthly kWh used. Further savings at these facilities are projected to reach almost R300 000 annually.
According to Warwick Stark of Rawlyn LED Lights, the company conducted an energy audit at Voestalpine's head office late in 2011. Based on the findings, the head office was retrofitted with LED technology lighting, resulting in an annual estimated saving of 30 634 kWh. "In monetary terms, this equals a saving of almost R35 000 a year," he says. These dramatic results prompted Voestalpine to commission Rawlyn to conduct an audit on the lighting and heating requirements of its manufacturing plant on the adjacent property in Isando.
In addition to the lighting Rawlyn LED Lights also audited the water heating requirements in the plant. As a result, old lighting technologies as well as the geysers in the ablution and shower blocks were replaced. Overall, Stark says, Voestalpine "will incur an annual energy saving of 164 480 kWh at these facilities." ESI-Africa reports that Voestalpine has now contracted Rawlyn to complete an audit and recommend similar measures at its manufacturing facility in Kimberley.
