Beware of fake UIF benefits website

The Department of Labour has warned members of the public of a bogus website that promises to help people to get their benefits from the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).

The Department of Labour has distanced itself from the claims on the website.

“The fraudsters further claim that they have a list of workers who worked between 1990 and 2018, have the rights to get the benefits of R33,000 by the Department of Labour. There is no list of workers who are due to get benefits,” the department said.

The Department of Labour manages the UIF unemployment benefits and has never published any list of people to withdraw any benefits.

The department said the claim is fake and has advised unemployed workers who need their benefits to apply for them at their nearest labour centre in person.

The department has emphasised that it offers its services for free.

The UIF can be contacted on 0800 843 843.
