Konkola appoints new CEO

Konkola Copper Mines Plc (KCM) has announced the appointment of Kishore Kumar as the new chief executive officer (CEO), taking over from Jeyakumar Janakaraj, who recently expressed his desire to pursue opportunities outside the Vedanta Resources Group.

Kumar, who is currently CEO for Zinc International, will now function as CEO Base Metals (Africa), which includes oversight of KCM operations and Copper Mines of Tasmania (CMT) with immediate effect. Kumar provided leadership at KCM for two and a half years as the CEO between 2008 and 2011. He joined Vedanta Group in April 2003 and has handled senior leadership roles in marketing as well as CEO of Sterlite Copper, KCM and Zinc International.

Vedanta Resources Plc chairman Anil Agarwal has praised Janakaraj for the excellent work at KCM, initially as director of operations in 2008 and subsequently as CEO since March 2011. Agarwal said: "While wishing Kishore all the very best in the new challenging role, I wish Jeyakumar all the very best in his future endeavours. I also take the opportunity to wish all the employees of KCM, Zinc International and CMT, an eventful and productive year and great future ahead. I am sure that under Kishore's leadership, these businesses will deliver superior performance with a sense of urgency."
