The competition attracted 139 entries in 2009 including three from New Zealand. This is in line with its objectives to create international recognition for Pinotage as a premium red wine variety and to ensure that South Africa remains the leader in all aspects of its cultivation and vinification.
The seven judges for the 2010 competition include international wine judge and auctioneer David Molyneux-Berry. The other judges are Duimpie Bayly (convener), Gert Boerssen, Dave Hughes, Jonathan Steyn, Hannes Storm and Susan Erasmus.
Entries cost R375 per wine for members of the Pinotage Association and non-members pay an additional R375 per entry, however this amount can be used to obtain membership of the association. Competition information and entry forms are available on www.pinotage.co.za.
