Milk organisation to restructure

The Milk Producers' Organisation (MPO) is about to restructure, it said on Friday, 27 March 2009.

This comes after recommendations of management consultants appointed by its board of directors to look into the activities of the organisation, as well as a planning session of the Executive Committee.

In terms of the restructuring, the MPO Group's core affiliates would be incorporated into the MPO to ensure that optimal services are rendered to milk producers.

The activities of non-core affiliates that are in the interest of milk producers will be divided among the core affiliates.

Decisions regarding the other activities of the non-core affiliates will be announced in due course, the MPO said.

It said that the core services that were identified and which will be the MPO's future focus, are market protection, communication, technology transfer and information.

"These changes will in future enable the MPO to focus on the needs of its members the milk producers of South Africa. The organisation will be more streamlined and will be able to act sooner and even more effectively in the interest of milk producers," said Dan Kleynhans, chairman of MPO National.

"The restructuring process enjoyed the full support of the Executive Committee, the MPO board of directors, all the provincial regions of the MPO and management."

He added that this restructuring process was in line with the dynamic nature of the organisation and that it could now continue to render even better services to milk producers, enabling them to run their businesses optimally.
