The union embarked on two regional strikes in the past four weeks, one in Johannesburg on 21 August and the other in Durban on 29 August. Tomorrow, 12 September, it is taking the march to Cape Town.
Lucas Ramatlhodi, the union's spokesperson, said the Cape Town strike was the "last straw" and that "workers will be meeting from next week to finalise details of national strike".
Woolworths claims that the union does not have enough members to be recognised, while Saccawu argued that more than 50% of Woolworths' employees belong to the union.
"We could be wrong and we are willing to go verify our claims, but Woolworths has consistently resisted all attempts to agree on a verification process to test its claims of the supposedly less than 15% membership," said Ramatlhodi.
