US court seems to ‘lean' towards tobacco companies

High court seems to lean toward cigarette-makers; boundary of state-federal law at crux of case weighing smokers' complaints over labelling.

On the first day of the Supreme Court's new term, the justices appeared receptive Monday to a tobacco lawyer's arguments that federal law blocks state lawsuits claiming fraud in the marketing of "light" and "low-tar" cigarettes.
