Why hair turns grey
Scientists think that they have found the reason that your hair goes grey
Experts who think that they have found the reason that hair turns grey say that this knowledge could help to prevent something that is accepted as a normal part of the ageing process.
Experiments have found that it is a massive build up of hydrogen peroxide caused by wear and tear of the hair follicles that blocks the hair's normal pigment and so hair turns grey.
The scientists worked in collaboration with experts in Mainz and Luebeck in Germany and the discoveries have been published in the FASEB scientific journal, published by the Federation of the American Societies for Experimental Biology. Lead researcher Karin Schallreuter said experts examined hair as well as cells from human hair follicles to uncover the findings.
Researchers say that this may lead to some 'novel' ways of preventing greyness.
