XDR tuberculosis requires emphasis on primary transmission
The Lancet Infectious Diseases emphasises “poor prescribing practices” in its analysis of the emerging problem of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) tuberculosis1.
Although improved tuberculosis medication handling is essential, the largest study to date of XDR tuberculosis shows that those infected with the disease were never exposed to second-line drugs and most had never been treated for tuberculosis2.
