Business is blazing

Just when it seems like things are slowing down for the autumn and its ubiquitous holidays, someone turns the heat back on. And I'm not talking about the heatwave we had in Cape Town over the weekend. Business is on fire at the moment, with a number of deals being signed last week.

Taste Holdings is setting itself up to be the dominant player in the quick-service pizza arena, having signed a master licence agreement to bring America's Domino's Pizza to SA shores. Famous Brands is looking north, and will be exporting Steers‚ Wimpy, Debonairs Pizza and Mugg & Bean to Saudi Arabi, Egypt and Morocco, among other places.

Woolworths has set it's compass eastward, and put in an offer for Australia's David Jones. The acquisition would make Woolies one of the 10 largest department store operators in the world.

The French have taken an interest in local business, with BNP Paribas Personal Finance set to buy RCS from TFG and Standard Bank.

And finally, Massmart will bid adieu to its CEO, Grant Pattison, after seven years and the major Walmart deal. Wishing him the best of luck with his future endevours.

Have a wonderful week everyone!
