In 2010, this share grew to 10% and the expectation is that by the end of 2011, it will be 12%.

NUREMBURG, GERMANY: British consumers are facing the double whammy of still feeling the effects of recession even as rising costs fuel inflationary worries. They are not alone in the world, though, according to GfK Roper Consulting's 2011 Mood of the World Report, which is based on a global survey of more than 32 000 consumers ages 15 and older in 25 countries.

The survey by GfK NOP, a global market research agency, covered nine countries (US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, South Korea, Brazil and China) and included 8603 online interviews, with each country's sample designed to represent their online population.

This has been foreseen for a few years, hence it is not a total surprise; but it is a shock nonetheless. It upsets the status quo that prevailed for over a century.
