Your ambition belongs in good company: RMB Private Banking’s new campaign

Ambition no longer follows a straight line. Today’s professionals are building businesses alongside careers, creating multiple income streams, investing earlier, working across borders and redefining what success means on their own terms. It’s a shift that is changing not only how people build wealth, but what they expect from the institutions helping them do it.

Against this backdrop, RMB Private Banking has unveiled a refreshed campaign, Your Ambition Belongs in Good Company. Gareth Matthews, National Head: RMB Private Banking, unpacks the thinking behind the campaign and what it says about the future of private banking.

“Ambition is a powerful force. It drives people to build careers, start businesses, support their families and create wealth. For many years, RMB Private Banking has backed the ambitions of South Africa’s professionals as they pursue these goals. This campaign reflects our commitment to continue evolving alongside the needs of our clients and remaining deeply connected to their aspirations," Matthews says.

"It reinforces our belief that success is not a destination, but a lifelong pursuit, and one that needs to be supported by the right partner.”

Why launch a new campaign for RMB Private Banking?

RMB Private Banking has long championed the ambitions of South Africa's professionals. As economic realities, career paths and definitions of success continue to evolve, we've recognised the need to ensure that we remain relevant, relatable and aligned to the lives of our clients.

Today's professionals face a far more dynamic and evolving landscape than ever before. They're navigating career changes, entrepreneurship, global opportunities, digital disruption and evolving financial priorities. This campaign reflects our commitment to understanding those realities and continuing to support our clients through every stage of their journey.

Is this a rebrand for RMB Private Banking?

No, this isn't a rebrand. It's an evolution of how we express who we are and the value we deliver to clients. Our heritage, values and commitment to exceptional service remain unchanged. What has changed is the environment in which our clients operate, and our campaign aims to better reflect the role we play in helping them navigate that environment with confidence.

What’s the inspiration behind this campaign?

At its core, the campaign was inspired by the evolving ambitions of professionals. Success today looks very different from what it did a decade ago. Professionals are building businesses, pursuing multiple income streams, investing earlier, working globally and seeking greater balance in their lives. We wanted our brand to reflect the realities of modern ambition and demonstrate how RMB Private Banking supports clients as they pursue their goals.

What makes RMB Private Banking different from other private banks?

While products and services are important, what truly differentiates RMB Private Banking is our ability to understand our clients and build meaningful relationships that enable us to deliver relevant, personalised solutions.

We take the time to understand our clients, their current context, challenges and aspirations. By combining personalised banking, wealth management, specialised lending, investment expertise and trusted advice, we're able to provide solutions that are tailored to individual needs rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach.

What is your message to young professionals?

The central message is that ambition deserves a partner. Behind every promotion, business venture, investment decision or long-term financial goal is an individual striving to build something meaningful. Our role is to provide the expertise, guidance and support that helps clients turn ambition into achievement.

Why is a focus on young professionals important?

Young professionals represent one of the most dynamic and influential growth segments in the market. They are shaping industries, creating businesses, driving innovation and redefining what success looks like. Many are making important financial decisions earlier in their lives and are looking for a partner that understands both where they are today and where they want to be in the future. We've been supporting this segment for years, and this campaign reaffirms our commitment to helping them build long-term financial success.

How does this campaign reflect the future of private banking?

The future of private banking is increasingly personal and extends far beyond transactions. Clients want a banking partner who understands their world, anticipates their needs, and helps them make informed financial decisions across both their personal and professional lives.

Our experience serving some of South Africa's most esteemed clients has shaped our approach, enabling us to deliver meaningful relationships, expert insights, and tailored solutions. This campaign reflects that evolution, reinforcing our commitment to creating value beyond traditional banking and helping clients unlock opportunities wherever they exist.

What does success look like for this campaign?

Success is ultimately about connection and relevance. If clients see themselves reflected in the campaign, if they better understand the value RMB Private Banking brings to their lives, and if the campaign strengthens our position as a trusted partner for ambitious professionals, then we will have achieved our objective.

What do you hope audiences take away from this campaign?

We want people to see RMB Private Banking as more than transactional banking. We want them to see a trusted partner that understands their ambitions, appreciates the realities they face and is committed to helping them achieve what matters most.
