Protecting legacies: API Events gears up for Africa’s definitive private wealth gathering

API Events is bringing its longstanding expertise in premier pan-African B2B events to the private wealth space, with the launch of an exclusive new forum designed to meet the discerning needs of family offices, UHNW individuals and private wealth principals and advisors.

Founded in partnership with Stanbic Bank, Deacon Wealth Management and Suntera Global, the Capital & Legacy Forum will provide an exclusive space for wealth principals, family office directors and chief investment officers from across the region, together with the trustees, lawyers, tax advisers and private bankers who serve them.

Family offices have become one of the most influential pools of private capital in the world, controlling around $6tn in capital. This according to Deloitte, which counted about 8,030 family offices in 2024, up 31% from 6,130 in 2019, and projects 10,720 by 2030.

“To safeguard generational wealth, family offices are looking beyond listed markets towards private equity, real estate, private credit, infrastructure and renewable energy. Together with our expert partners, we’re excited to create an exclusive platform for the frank and insightful conversations desired by these individuals and other influential private wealth players from across Africa,” says Murray Anderson, commercial director at API Events.

The programme for the one-day event, taking place at Kofisi Kaskazi, focuses on the pertinent issues unique to this target market, from wealth preservation, to asset classes, investing in Africa and globally, and succession plans.

“The Capital & Legacy Forum brings to the table many of the practical issues families face as their wealth becomes more complex, from investment and structuring to international mobility, governance and preparing the next generation. These are increasingly important conversations for families thinking about how wealth is managed over the long term,” says John McDonald, director of Nairobi and UK-based independent wealth advisory firm Waugh McDonald.

Saif Ahmedi, senior relationship manager at DeaconCapital Asset Management added: "We're pleased to be partnering with API Events for this inaugural event, which we believe will occupy an important space in the conversations around protecting generational wealth in Africa. Family offices and high net worth individuals have a unique set of needs and this event presents a prime opportunity to share peer-to-peer conversations and first-hand perspectives from their journeys of exploring wealth preservation and investment."

Attendance is carefully curated, with quality coming before ticket numbers, in order for principals to talk candidly with others who face similar investment and wealth preservation decisions, including tricky subjects such as family constitutions and internal conflict resolution.
