Campaign for Josh

Local charity Pets Empowerment in Townships (PETS) have sent out an urgent appeal to potential pet owners in order to find a home for Josh, a mixed breed dog who had been left behind by the owner who had recently adopted him. Josh had first entered the public eye after being stabbed seven times and left for dead.

According to Shireen Williams, Josh's journey has thus far been extremely traumatic - he had not only survived being stabbed, but suffered from extreme post traumatic stress after the incident. He was also a suspected victim of dog fighting and/or baiting.

"It took an intense amount of foster care and emotional rehabilitation before Josh was ready to go into a permanent home," says Williams. "But he loves human company and is extremely gentle and sweet. When we received an adoption application for him, we were ecstatic. We did all the necessary home checks and paper work, but shortly after the adoption went through, his new owner took a job in Namibia and left Josh behind. A neighbour has been feeding him, but he is not coping and barks non-stop."

This led PETS to launch an intense social media campaign, appealing to find Josh a new home. "He is only two years old and deserves a better start in life. All he wants are chewy treats and kisses."

Josh would suit a home with no other cats or dogs and is very child-friendly. He has been sterilised, vaccinated and microchipped.

If anyone is able to give Josh a permanent or foster home, email az.gro.step@neerihs.
