According to the Commonwealth Business Council, West African economies are currently experiencing high levels of growth, bolstered by an increasing international interest, rising commodity prices and regional and domestic reform. The 2009 forum's theme "Development through Economic Reform and Global Partnerships" hopes to capitalise on this momentum, help drive up the profile of the region as a strong investment destination, and bring together the required stakeholders to make a serious impact in the region.

Professor Steve Godfrey, managing director of the CBC said, "This is a critical moment for Africa, as it seeks to protect and sustain the economic growth of the last decadeĀ."

With sessions focusing on topics such as, banking integration between West Africa and the rest of the world, and the ECOWAS's perspective on the challenges of the global economy and discussions lead by, chairmen, CEOs from the international and regional business community and government ministers from the ECOWAS region and beyond the forum aims to set the agenda for the coming year.
