John Swain Memorial Scholarship awardee announced
The scholarship, which was established in 1986, is named in honor of John Swain, co-founder of DirectMail.com and a longtime DMAW member. It is awarded to an undergraduate in a mid-Atlantic college or university who demonstrates academic excellence and a desire to work in the field of marketing. The 2010 recipient is Faith Albers from Christopher Newport University.
Awarding bright students
"For 25 years, the Swain family has generously provided funding for the John Swain Scholarship to encourage students with an interest in direct marketing and who have demonstrated academic excellence to continue their studies in the field," says Karen Depew, executive administrator for DMAW-EF.
"Faith Albers of Christopher Newport University is one of those bright students we hope will choose a successful career in our industry."
Kirk Swain, principal, DirectMail.com and son of John Swain, says, "Through the John Swain Memorial Scholarship we aim to attract the best and brightest newcomers to the direct marketing industry. Each year, under DMAW-EF's able leadership, the number of scholarship applicants grows, as does the quality of their qualifications. This year's recipient is no exception. We congratulate Faith Albers on her selection and are proud to support DMAW-EF's work."
The presentation took place at the DMAW's annual Best of Direct Gala on 2 December in Washington, DC.
