Engen Computer School graduates receive certificates

The school equips learners with basic computer skills including personal computing, mouse manoeuvring, keyboard use, general competence using Microsoft programmes such as MS word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as emailing and browsing the Internet.

Smangele Mbeje (19), one of the learners in the programme, saw the challenges her mother faced as a single parent without education. Thus inspired to make a difference in her life, she decided to attend the Engen Computer School.

"Each day after the first lesson I was inspired to come back because of the fun I had while learning, and the facilitators were very knowledgeable and helpful. I know that my sacrifice was worthwhile, and soon I will be able to get a decent job, so I can help at home," says Mbeje.

The determined Mbeje is among 115 Engen Community Computer Training Centre graduates who received their certificates at this month's event.

Director of the Programme, Sheryll Cassalis from Added Advantage Academy, says: "Since taking the course, over 240 previously unemployed graduates are now employed."

Cassalis believes this can partly be attributed to the computer literacy and business skills they attained at the Training Centre.
Public Affairs Manager at Engen Refinery, Thandeka Cele said "We believe in empowering young people with skills that will contribute positively to their lives, especially in today's digitised work environment".
