Strike action may be lower next year
It says that strike action has lost 20-million man-hours - mainly due to the protracted public service strike - and led to about R407-million being lost in wages.
Business Live quotes labour economist Andrew Levy as saying that the number of strikes will drop having seen what he called "an exceptionally high" level of strike action this year. He says a striking feature of the labour action this year is how militant the unions have become and their willingness to go on strike.
The strike action by the South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union against pharmacy group Dis-Chem lasted for 75 working days, making it the most protracted strike this year.
