The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) on Monday acknowledged the successful conduct of South Africa's fifth democratic elections, saying it contributes to improved business confidence.
Elections bode well for business confidence: Sacci

"Sacci wishes to acknowledge the successful conduct of the 2014 Elections. It is no small accomplishment that the elections were free and fair, and the procedural quality of the elections contributes to improved business confidence," said Sacci CEO Neren Rau.

The results of the elections were made known to the public on Saturday by Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) chairperson Pansy Tlakula, following Wednesday's voting day.

Rau said Sacci will continue to play an active role in the next democratic term of office to enhance the relationship between business, government and labour.

The African National Congress (ANC) was declared the winner of the 2014 General Elections.

The party clinched 62.15% of the national votes.

The party received 11,436,921 votes, which equals to 249 seats in the National Assembly.

The party is still in control in eight of the country's provinces, with the exception of the Western Cape, which remains under the Democratic Alliance (DA), with 59.38% of the provincial vote.

President Jacob Zuma was among those who attended the official announcement on Saturday evening.
