Foreign investment should be welcomed
South Africans should encourage all foreign investment and should stop deluding themselves that the country is a major global economic power claims Leon Louw of the Free Market Foundation.
He says that while WalMart and Massmart executives are being cross-questioned by the Competition Tribunal, disgruntled workers were protesting outside the Department of Trade and Industry over the deal.
Louw says that the government should stop trying to protect local businesses, particularly if the country hopes to remain globally competitive. He was addressing members of the Competition Tribunal that is investigating the R16,5-billion merger.
