Rising Stars Career Expo to explore new heights
Under the theme “Explore New Heights”, Rising Stars Career Expo will be hosted in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education and support from local leaders.
The aim of the event is to reach out to both rural and urban youths and Imfume is the first of many non-urban areas which will benefit from the career information that exhibitors will showcase. The Rising Stars Careers Expo has been previously hosted in townships like KwaMashu and KwaZakhele in Port Elizabeth.
What is most significant about this year’s expo is that Imfume community will see a career expo being hosted for the first time in their area. This will revive the hopes and dreams of young people in the community because the expo will be hosted in this area for the next coming years.
The new addition to the expo programme is Accommodation Exhibition which is meant to be a student housing manual for those attending the expo. “We have observed over the years that most learners find themselves in desperate circumstances when it comes to quality accommodation after relocating to a new city even when accepted at their institution of choice,” said event organiser, Thulisa Mangcotywa. This is partly because not all tertiary institutions have residences inside or outside the campus. Even if they have residencies it is impossible to accommodate all their students. There is, however, an increasing awareness in most provinces for property developers about the gap in the student market. Parents want to be assured that their children live in good quality accommodation residences that are safe and near campuses.
The Rising Stars Talent Show is one of the interactive activities that form part of this educational event and young people between the ages of 13-25 who are interested in participating are invited to contact the organisers. Other activities include keynote addresses by respected speakers, presentations, demonstrations and networking.
