Volkswagen Taigo to land in SA next year

Volkswagen South Africa has confirmed that the VW Taigo will be available in South Africa in 2022. The Taigo will be Volkswagen's sixth T-named vehicle in South Africa.

The Taigo is based on the Nivus model from Brazil, and will be manufactured for the European market in Pamplona, Spain. The new (Crossover Utility Vehicle) CUV will make its début this summer and will be launched on the market at the end of 2021.

Volkswagen said in a statement that the new model will come with a 'multitude of assistance systems and state-of-the-art connectivity'.

Not much is known about the specifications as of yet, but the Taigo will be launched on the market with TSI engines, LED headlights as standard, a modern operating concept, a fully digital cockpit and a multitude of assist systems.

The vehicle is built on the A0 MQB platform with pricing and specs to be announced closer to the launch date.

About the Nivus

The Volkswagen Nivus is a turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine. The 1l engine produces 95kW of power and 200Nm of torque and is moved by a six-speed automatic transmission.

It has six airbags and adaptive cruise control, as well as autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection. In terms of features, it has VW Play, an infotainment system designed specifically for the Latin American market. This system features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a 10gb hard drive to store content.
