Fleet owners respond to Department of Transport announcement that the Gauteng E-tolls system would go live today, Tuesday 3 December 2013.

While the matter remains contentious, the SA Guild of Motoring Journalists and most vehicle manufacturers, importers and distributors will, in the name of good corporate citizenship, do whatever it needs to do in order to respect the law.

At the time of distribution, the following manufacturers, distributors, and importers have confirmed that they will be fitting e-tags to all their media fleet vehicles:

• Audi South Africa
• BMW South Africa (BMW & MINI)
• Chrysler South Africa (Chrysler, JEEP, Dodge)
• Fiat Automobiles South Africa (Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Fiat)
• Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (Ford & Mazda)
• General Motors South Africa (Chevrolet, Isuzu, Opel)
• Jaguar Land Rover South Africa
• Honda Motor South Africa
• Hyundai Motors South Africa
• Mercedes-Benz South Africa
• Nissan South Africa
• Peugeot South Africa
• Renault South Africa
• Suzuki Auto South Africa
• Volkswagen South Africa (except long-termers)

E-tolls and media fleets

Porsche Centre South Africa will not be fitting e-tags to their vehicles, but will cover the toll fees of their press vehicles when used on tolled roads.

The SAGMJ thanks the various manufacturers, distributors, and importers and appreciate the additional expense this incurs to the effective management and maintenance of a media fleet. We urge our members to also bear this in mind and, where possible and practical, to be considerate in their use of Gauteng's new tolled highways.
