Dischem gives products to football kids
The distribution of health and hygiene products complements the health-education programme, which was the first of three phases of the Kia Street Soccer project that taught over 3000 children from impoverished areas around South Africa about nutrition, personal hygiene and the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
Throughout the duration of the Kia Street Soccer project a total of 16 000 products will be handed to the children on a weekly basis, with each Kia Street Soccer participant receiving a facecloth, toothbrush, bar of soap and a tube of toothpaste.
The importance of healthy living standards
“We have spent the past nine months educating and advising children on the importance of healthy living standards and it is exciting to see the joy on their faces as they receive their health products after each weekly session. Sport plays an extremely important role in developing healthy lifestyles and we firmly believe that by encouraging the importance of nutrition and personal hygiene, it will lead our young to adopt a much healthier lifestyle as they grow up,” said Natalie Pollock, Kia Street Soccer Project manager from Sporting Chance.
“The Dis-Chem Foundation is delighted to be part of this national health initiative; we hope that all the kids take home some valuable information on their own health,” said Lynette Saltzman founder of the Dis-Chem Foundation.
