Following a site visit on Wednesday 2 July 2014, with representatives from the National Department of Transport and South African National Civics Organisation (SANCO), Bakwena can confirm that the structure is part of border upgrades by the Department of Public Works.
Bakwena spokesperson, Liam Clarke said that the company remains committed to open dialogue about developments on the roads it manages. "Bakwena has always followed the correct engagement procedures when implementing projects on the N1 and N4 routes. No project will move forward without the proper consultation and agreements by the community as was the case 13 years ago when Bakwena was awarded the concessionaire contract."
