Say Africa! Say Education!

Vusi Mahlasela together with local bands The Muffinz and Driemanskap will be performing the Say Africa! Say Education! A night with Vusi Mahlasela and Friends concert hosted by the education social movement organisation, Equal Education at the Artscape Opera House on 24 August.
Say Africa! Say Education!

"Vusi Mahlasela sings as a bird does: in total response to being alive."

Mahlasela who is known as a peacemaker, social commentator and freedom fighter, sings songs of freedom, equality and courage. His voice and contribution to South African music have earned him a SAMA Lifetime Achievement Award as well as the Order of Ikhamanga. To put it in Nadine Gordimer's words, "Vusi Mahlasela sings as a bird does: in total response to being alive."

The fundraising concert will highlight the importance of education. Before and after the show and during the interval, concert goers will be able to visit exhibitions, donate money and speak to students who are involved in the movement.

Equal Education is a community-based, membership-based organisation. Its members are predominantly high school students who meet weekly to discuss the challenges facing the world, the continent, the country and their schools. They take action to improve their schools, and their efforts have in the past secured textbooks, libraries, school infrastructure and improved teaching. The money raised from this concert will be dedicated to this mission.

Tickets can be purchased at Box Office, Dial-a-Seat and Computicket outlets at R140 per person.
