Traditional Courts Bill still in Parliamentary process

PRETORIA: The Select Committee for Security and Constitutional Development has decided to adopt a report of all public submissions on the Traditional Courts Bill made during public hearings in September.

Chairperson of the Select Committee, Tjheta Mofokeng has stressed that the Bill has not been withdrawn and that new information emerging from the public hearings will be sent to provinces before final mandates will be sought from provinces.

"The Bill has not been withdrawn and the committee will be continuing its work on processing the Bill in the new year," Mofokeng said.

SAnews.gov.za erroneously reported last week that the Bill had been withdrawn. The original story was pulled from the news agency's website as soon as the error was discovered.

The Select Committee met on November 28 to consider and adopt a report on the public hearings held at Parliament. This report will be tabled in Parliament in 2013. It will also be sent to the provinces for consideration.
