EFF wins court case over red clothing

The doors to the Buffalo City Metro council chambers have been legally prised open for EFF councillors who may enter wearing their red overalls, hard hats, berets and boots.

East London High Court judge Selby Mbenenge ruled last week that EFF members were not allowed to be removed from chambers on the basis of their dress.

The party welcomed the ruling which found that the removal of its representatives from the council chambers was unconstitutional.

The order to leave was given by council speaker Alfred Mtsi.

The EFF has only taken part in a full session of council once, which was the inaugural meeting.

The party has battled to have their trademark red uniforms accepted as part of the dress code in most councils around the country.

The party also had to get a court order for its uniformed MPs to be allowed to take up their elected seats in parliament.
