Engen signs energy efficiency agreement
The signed agreement emanates from the Energy Efficiency Accord (EEA) that Engen first signed in 2005. This new, evolved pledge, known as the Energy Efficiency Leadership Network (EELN) pledge, replaces the previous energy efficiency accord.
"Business can no longer expect government to take the lead; rather we need to all come together and show our commitment. By signing this pledge, Engen is taking a stand together with government to make energy efficiency a reality," says Nizam Salleh, Engen Petroleum CEO and managing director.
Undertaking various objectives
Engen recognises that energy efficiency is key to a number of national objectives and is committed to improvement in the areas of business competitiveness, energy security, job creation, energy consumption, improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions.
In terms of these objectives Engen undertakes to develop a road map for improved energy efficiency in their operations, supported by the implementation of an appropriated energy management system; develop internal energy efficiency targets that are appropriate to its operations and activities and aligned with appropriate government policies and strategies; report on efforts to promote energy efficiency and progress made towards setting energy efficiency targets in its operations within the parameters of national legislation; and work with stakeholders on energy efficiency related issues aimed at building capacity and developing the required skills to implement energy efficiency programmes and drive the required behavioural changes.
