Govender succeeds Solly Keetse and assumes this position for the second time, having served a two year term in 2007, before resigning to serve on the Board of Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB), the global financial planning standards setting body. She was first elected to the board of the FPI in 2004 and served as vice-chairperson. Govender has also served as regional committee chairperson of the FPI KwaZulu-Natal regional committee, FPI audit committee and recently completed her three year term serving on FPSB's board.

    Member of FSB

She is the current chairperson of the South African Savings Institute (SASI), a member of the Financial Services Board's (FSB) FAIS Advisory Committee and Trustee of the FSB's Financial Services Consumer Education Foundation, which she was appointed to in October 2011. She has also served on various other advisory committees of the FSB.

Govender holds B. Comm. (Accounting) and M. Comm. (Taxation) degrees as well as an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning, specialising in Investments and Estate Planning. In 2010, she was awarded the inaugural FPI Chairman's Award at the FPI Annual Convention.

"I am indeed honoured to be asked to serve the FPI in the capacity of chairperson at this important time in its history. Keetse played a fundamental part in our strategic evolution over the years and FPI will forever be grateful for his abundant service and steadfast leadership," Govender said. "I look forward to working with my fellow directors and the executive team in helping bed down our FPI Strategy 2015, which will help position FPI as the premier professional body, with its members as the most competent and professional individuals in the financial services industry," Govender concluded.
