Highlighting World Disability Day

The International Day of Persons with Disability takes place annually on 3 December, with this year's theme being 'Together for a Better World for All: Including Persons with Disabilities in Development'.

The United Nations quotes that an estimated 15% of the world's population is living with disability and that between 110 - 190 million of these people encounter significant difficulties.

"A quarter of the world's population is directly affected by disability, either by working as a care giver or being a family member," says Siyakha Consulting's executive director, Dionne Kerr.

"Siyakha Consulting has worked for over 10 years in the successful and sustainable integration of persons with disability into the workplace. Whilst we work actively to source the right candidate for the role, internship or learnership, we also offer many different interventions which work towards effective and long-term disability management," says Kerr.

"Siyakha is working with several leading corporates in establishing learnership programmes for 2012 and in an advisory role to work towards the new Employment Equity targets coming into effect in February," says Kerr.
