In the report, tabled in Parliament on Thursday, 4 August 2011, Tshidi said that fruitless and wasteful expenditure of R23 million was paid by the RAF to the sheriff to cover interest costs incurred as a result of delays in settling claims.
The New Age says that claims paid to accident victims amounted to R11,4 billion in the 2009-2010 financial year.
