Gauteng health MEC faces grilling over dead babies
Following reports that as many as 17 babies have died at two Gauteng hospitals in the past 10 days, the Gauteng health and social development MEC Qedani Mahlangu will be expected to provide answers to legislators when she delivers her budget vote today.
It has been reported that 11 babies died at Natalspruit Hospital in Katlehong from unknown causes, and a further six died in the neo-natal intensive care unit of Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg; in their case the cause of death was apparently diarrhoea.
