PRETORIA: Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula says the National Lotteries Act should be amended to open opportunities for the sport and recreation sector to independently access lottery funding.
New funding regulations for the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF), published by Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies, came into effect on 30 July 2010. The regulations prescribe that 50% of monies be used for specific priority areas and the focus will be on the developmental needs of rural, poor and under-privileged communities.
The National Lottery's biggest "winners" who collectively took more than R2.7 billion in the past five years, will show their happy faces on television, beginning early January 2005, in a new publicity campaign to counter scepticism.
