NYF 2013 International Radio Programs & Promo Awards: 'World's Best Radio Programs' finalists
The competition received submissions from 36 countries around the globe, and honours the most innovative work in radio broadcasting, with entries from radio stations, networks, and independent producers. The 2013 Grand Jury selected 233 entries as Finalists. All Radio Finalists go on to the medal round of judging to determine Gold, Silver, and Bronze award winners.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation saw 19 entries moving on to the medal round, followed by RTE Ireland with 14 and TBI Media United Kingdom with 8 entries moving forward. Reliance Broadcast Network Ltd. India, 100-102 Today's FM Ireland, and BBC UK were each honoured with 7 Finalists.
ESPN USA, Radio Television Hong Kong, and Real and Smooth Radio United Kingdom each had 6 entries achieve Finalist status. Wise Buddah Creative United Kingdom saw 5 entries moving forward as Finalist. The following companies each had 3 entries moving on to the medals round: Wise Buddha Jingles & Music Imaging Ltd.; O'Reilly Television Inc. Canada; British Forces Broadcasting Service England; Radio France; Fever 104 FM India; Radio Mirchi 98.3FM India; Radio Netherlands Worldwide; GMG Radio United Kingdom; Ben Manilla Productions, Inc. NYF Radio Awards Grand Jury member Stefan Frech, host NDR2 & hr3, Germany said, "We had wonderful entries from all over the world. What is fascinating is that more and more radiomaniacs concentrate on very difficult and serious topics. They represent not only outstanding radio crafts but also braveness and great journalism. Obviously radio is not only games 'n gags!"
This year the competition launched several new categories to honour the exceptional work created by the radio community. Finalists included "Bob Edwards Talks with Children's Book Author Jack Gantos" Sirius XM Radio USA (Best Interview); "The Thistle & Shamrock" Fiona Ritchie Productions Scotland (Best Interview) and Ciarán Hinds for "The Dreaming of Roger Casement by Patrick Mason" RTE Radio 1 Ireland (Best Performance by an Actor). Other new categories with Finalists included Social Issues, Current Affairs, and Student Drama.
In collaboration with the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI), New York Festivals established the United Nations Awards in 1990 to honour radio programs that best exemplifies the aims and ideals of the United Nations. Finalists in the 2013 Radio Awards who meet these criteria will be judged by a panel convened by the United Nations to select the Gold, Silver and Bronze UNDPI Award winners.
New York Festivals International Radio Programs & Promos Awards Grand Jury enlists men and women from all over the world, representing some of the most recognisable voices and captivating programming producers in the industry. Entries are judged on production values, organisation, presentation of information, creativity, and use of the medium. Each jury member listens to and scores entries via the NYF online judging website.
