Google launches real-time news trend report

Google Trends have been around for years, but now they've introduced a real-time option that brings you the latest trends happening around the world, as well as in your country.

Only available in 28 countries, the report works with graphs showing when a topic is going "viral" and gives journalists a quicker way to report on trending news.

Data-driven journalism is becoming a hot topic in the industry, and the news trends report will no doubt help it along. Here's a little video the Google News Lab put together explaining why data and analytics in journalism is important.
