Partnership to advance connectivity for farmers

In an effort to provide rural farming communities with world-class communications systems, AgriSA and AliSom Communications, a Vodacom national partner, has signed an agreement that will bring cellular and internet services closer to farming communities and agribusinesses.

AliSom will assist the farming community with a personal touch by providing direct access to these services so that they will not need to go through a call center to resolve a query, acquire new services or upgrading on existing packages.

AliSom will be able to assist the farming community with leading edge technology in the cellular, data and internet space. The company was established in 2009 as the entity to house an already successful business providing their services in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Northwest, KwaZulu-Natal, and Limpopo. This includes a number of Vodacom shop franchises and corporate divisions in these provinces. They are also able to assist farming communities from other provinces. AliSom is one of Vodacom’s national partners and is, therefore, able to offer a wide variety of Vodacom products such as mobile, data and fixed-line facilities, including detailed business solutions, cell phone packages, and internet connectivity.

One of Agri SA’s aims is to improve communication infrastructure to the farming community with leading edge technology. Farming entities must use technology to sustain their businesses and therefore require efficient telecommunication technology, which AliSom can provide. One of these technologies is the VSAT (very small aperture terminal), which is based on a satellite system and, therefore, works best in cases where more traditional methods of communication are problematic, due to difficult access. Through this technology, farming communities can gain access to the internet and telephone services.

The company believes that agriculture is a critical sector to stimulate economic and rural development and in signing this agreement the company will also contribute to the Agri Securitas Trust Fund to improve the safety of the farming community.
