SANEA announces new leadership structure

The South African National Energy Association (SANEA) has announced a revised leadership structure which now includes a role of managing director. This will be fully implemented on 1 May 2014, although there will be some transition during April 2014.

Brian Statham will step down from his current role of executive chair and will assume the more strategic role of non-executive chair. In this role he will continue to provide guidance and leadership, drawing on his more than 20 years of involvement with SANEA and the World Energy Council.

"These changes and the addition of the managing director position provide an exciting opportunity to further enhance the value of SANEA. I am delighted to be part of this next phase, building on the existing solid foundation towards an even stronger and more influential association," Statham commented.

Growth plans

The new role of managing director will be filled on a part-time basis by Brian Day of Cennergi. He will be accountable for the execution of the growth plans for SANEA. Dave Wright of Engen Petroleum will continue in the role of secretary-general, a position he has filled for several years now.

"Cennergi is committed to the development of the South African energy sector and we believe SANEA does important work in this regard. Eskom has supported SANEA for many years and we are now proud to have the opportunity to spearhead the private sector commitment to this key organisation," said Thomas Garner, CEO of Cennergi.
