Durban's North Pier to open by June next year
The popular North Pier across the way from Durban's Golden Mile is to be re-opened to the public by June next year says a report in Ports and Ships.
Ports and Ships quotes Transnet National Ports Authority's Ricky Bhikraj as saying that the only thing holding up the re-opening of the pier is where cars will be able to park when visitors flock there.
North Pier allows people to have a reasonably close encounter with ships entering or leaving Durban and also enjoy the view across the bay. The pier was closed when the entrance channel was deepened from 13m of 16m and was widened to a minimum of 100m at its narrowest point.
